There’s something in the air in Greece and we felt so connected and inspired by the vibrant colours, the food, the culture, the landscape and of course, the love! The Greeks have this incredible insight into love, and they identified not just one or two, but eight distinct types of love.

Eros / Passionate love

The passionate and romantic love that ignites the sparks of desire and attraction between two individuals, fueling the flame of their relationship and creating an electric connection that transcends the ordinary.

Pragma / Enduring love

The enduring and practical love that evolves through time and commitment, founded on shared values, compromise, and the understanding that love requires effort and dedication to navigate the challenges of long-term relationships or marriages.

Ludus / Playful love

The playful and flirtatious love that brings a sense of joy, excitement, and light-heartedness to relationships, with teasing, laughter, and the exhilarating experience of the initial stages of romance that spark butterflies in the stomach.

Agape / Universal love

The selfless and compassionate love that goes beyond personal interests, characterised by acts of kindness, empathy, and unconditional care for others, emphasising a deep sense of humanity and the interconnectedness of all beings.

Philia / Deep Friendship

The deep bond of friendship and platonic love, built on shared values, trust, and companionship, where two souls find solace and support in each other, creating a foundation of genuine camaraderie that withstands the test of time.

Philautia / Self-love

The importance of self-love and self-care, valuing oneself, nurturing personal growth, and cultivating a healthy sense of self-worth, which in turn allows for healthier connections and more fulfilling relationships with others.

Storge / Familial love

The natural affection and unconditional love within a family, encompassing the warm bonds between parents and children, siblings, or extended relatives, where care, understanding, and a sense of belonging create a nurturing and secure environment.

Mania / Obsessive love

The intense and sometimes obsessive love, characterised by extreme highs and lows, possessiveness, and a heightened sense of emotional intensity, often associated with infatuation or tumultuous relationships where love becomes a consuming force.

These eight types of love provide a framework for understanding the various dimensions of human connection and the complexities of relationships. We draw inspiration from these Greek concepts to celebrate and capture the unique love stories of each couple we have the honour of working with.
